After a series of promotions and hypes, Samsung Impression was finally released to the worldwide market in April 2009. This Smartphone comes with a large 3.2-inch touch screen with a 256K color support for its 240 by 400 pixel AMOLED display. This phone also comes with a comfortable QWERTY keyboard and a reliable camera.
Samsung Impression is a perfectly designed quad-band GSM phone with GPS and Bluetooth facilities as well as GPRS and WAP enabled high-speed browser. With the entire slide out QWERTY keyboard buttons arranged perfectly well, navigating your way through the phone does not have to be a hassle at all.
Key phone features of Samsung Impression
i. Design and style
Samsung Impression has a smooth and curved design that feels fantastic while giving it the feeling of quality. This gadget’s chrome accent makes it stand out. Also, additional features like a proximity sensor that turns off the display when the phone is near your face, adds to its overall quality.
The phone’s touchWiz is very fast and fun to use. With a wide variety of widgets to keep you entertained, dragging widgets to the background from the side dock is certainly impressive. This phone also comes with a dedicated Bluetooth widget that ensures easy pairing while giving a broad geographical representation of nearby gadgets, making selection pretty quick and easy. The media player is remarkably simple with the microSD card expansion slot that allows for 16GB of additional storage.
ii. The display
Samsung Impression runs on AMOLED display. It looks totally brilliant in any light, including direct sunlight. Its vibrant colors make every detail on the screen pop up with bright and great viewing angles. The only draw back with the screen is the thin plastic that is used as the main touch surface. Objects that are not even sharp enough to scratch screens of other cell phones scratch this plastic very easily.
iii. Internet and browser
On a 3G connection, Samsung Impression’s browser gives a good imitation of a complete web, with pages loading very fast, in about 30 seconds. This is great for a phone that does not come with WiFi. You can either use the browser with the QWERTY keyboard or the full touch screen keyboard that is activated when you close the device.
iv. The camera
Certainly, a 3.0MP camera is perfect for any cell phone device. This camera captures top quality photos that are not too soft thanks to inbuilt noise reduction. Better still, the colors are very vibrant on the AMOLED screen resulting into high quality images. The phone also comes with a cool suite of photo editing and enhancing features that are remarkably easy to use. You can easily crop or change your images into sepia at the click of a few buttons.
v. Battery life
Samsung Impression comes with about 3.5 straight hours of talk time and 250 hours or ten days of standby time.
Some drawbacks of Samsung Impression smartphone
Though the phone comes with a 240 x 400 pixel video resolution, it experiences serious difficulties playing video clips that are formatted to that size. It can only play QVGA clips.
While this phone ships with Samsung’s PC Studio Software, it is disappointing that there is no way you can synchronize this phone with your Outlook contacts, and calendars, through your PC studio.
Retailing at $199, Samsung Impression is by all standards a fantastic phone with high quality calls on both ends. It is also easy to make multiple calls using this device. While this phone is working exceptionally hard to be a smartphone, too many “feature phone” features prevent it from being anything but a victim of iPhone envy.
